Today’s mission was to get ourselves down to Kyoto. According to the GPS the route ended up looking something like this:

The brief stop in Tokyo was just to change trains, but we also managed to hunt down some bento boxes to eat on the next train (no, we weren’t lost, it’s a menu not a map):
Before we could get on the train the little pink ladies made sure it was nice and clean for us:
Arrived in Kyoto and found the Tour Club hostel (photos of all the rooms we stayed in to come in a later post) where we spend the next 6 nights. After settling into the accommodation we hit the nearby district for a quick explore. Found a mall:
Great fun for me – not the shopping, but the fact I’m head and shoulders above most of the population makes it really easy to see beyond the crowds
Ok, so maybe the shopping was fun too… One of the biggest collections of expensive glass (Canon lenses) that I’ve seen:
But didn’t buy any, the prices weren’t really competitive at all, oh well, off to drown my sorrows with some Chu-hi:
