The “Awww Dam” Road Trip

by Jason on Jan.04, 2010, under Random Photoness

It was a hot afternoon so we decided to opt for the safety of an air conditioned car and take a drive up the Rangitaiki river, visiting the two man made lakes (Lake Aniwhenua and Lake Matahina) and the associated hydro-electric dams.

First up is Matahina. Here’s how Google Earth sees the area, with our tracklog overlayed in blue:

Click the pic to go through to flickr where the image has notes on it that link to the photos I took in each spot. Or, just look below to see said photos :)

Using the face of the dam as a background:

And Shane scaring the birds:

Continuing upstream and we get to Lake Aniwhenua and Aniwhenua Falls:

Ummm, move right along, nothing to see here:

And so while Shane and I didn’t explore beyond the restricted access sign, Janette waited on a rock back at the car:

Not that she was completely innocent herself:

And just to round out the mix, here’s me trying to get the hang of the whole “Strobist” off-camera flash thing earlier in the day. The observant among you will have noticed the effect shoehorned into some of the earlier photos.
Messing with Flash
…and no, I could not strike a cheesier pose if I tried.
