Little point and shoot camera on top of the big SLR. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for quite a while, but haven’t been able to find an adapter that would mount on my camera hotshoe at one end and the tripod screw on the bottom of another camera. Well, while in Japan I found one on the shelf:

Looks a little entertaining, but it saves me the dilemma of trying to decide if I want to video or shoot each time a car comes hurtling down the road. I can focus on getting the still shots and then let the little cam grab some (shonkey) video while I’m at it.

It’s been a while since I’ve photographed a motorsport event, so it was nice to have a soft reintroduction to it – Tarmac (i.e. no dust) and brilliant weather.

Thanks to my little point ‘n’ shoot camera I can now grab some video clips to supplement the photos. So here’s what a lap of the Baypark Speedway Pits looks like in full motion:

So apparently the All Blacks played a game this weekend, and apparently they lost. So while half the country was probably watching and mourning that, I was out shooting stuff.

The rough 10km course:

so the field was considerably smaller by the last run.

Also spent the day playing with my new point and shoot camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7), some of the static shots here were taken with it. Nifty thing is it also has some High Definition video capability:

The clip should give you some appreciation of how little time you have to get a well focused and composed shot as the cars whiz past…
